American Life Building

Originally designed by the firm of famous Modernist architect Mies Van der Rohe, the American life building has stood the test of time on Louisville’s Main street since 1973. While working for Potter and Associates Architects, Dan Spitler designed and oversaw the renovation of the ground floor for new client Your Community Bank.  Part of the scope of this project was to design a new guard desk to complement the architecture of the building. Dan’s design for the desk called for suspended granite Panels supported by a steel frame.  The frame was made of mirror finish stainless steel, and the welding was executed to perfection by local metal sculptor Tom Butch.
